On this page I am going to look at a dark subject called cyberstalking. This is a subject often hushed up with victims underestimating its seriousness. One of the most important steps and probably most vital is telling the police as it can escalate out of control. Many stalkers and cyberstalkers suffer from psychiatric problems like depression and PTSD but this isn’t always the case and they tend to be obsessive in some way. You can lock down things like your bank account and social media. This may be necessary as your stalker for example if your ex may have had access to your bank account and be charging things to it. You can prevent online payments as well as scrutinize bank statements. With social media you can password protect you main page and watch carefully who you befriend on there as it can be the stalker using a fake identity. Friends with lower security settings on there pages can have there timeline looked at to find out information about you. You should also not put personal information on these sites especially stuff like your date of birth and your address which can be used for online fraud. Many cases of cyberstalking can be done by complete strangers who maybe only know you by sight. Other cases can be by a exboyfriend or even a friend who seems quite innocent. Often when there approaches are rebuffed you have to bear in mind they may try and take revenge. A way this can happen is social engineering when you might get a phone call or e-mail pretending to be an official often like the police or a bank requesting information maybe your bank details to get revenge. You might even get a link in an e-mail requesting you go to a fake website although it seems genuine. A lot of these people will go extra-ordinary lengths to get revenge. Cyberstalkers are also often trolls who are people who go around the internet leaving nasty comments on as many sites as possible.

The book I read to research this post was Forex Dreaming by Christopher Lee which is a very good book that I downloaded for free from kindle. This book is around 65 pages so is fairly short. Forex is short for foreign exchange trading and is basically profiting on commision from a transaction converting currency from one type to another. This can be something like from euros to dollars and can for example be if a multinational company wants to build a factory in a certain country. The percentage is typically small and most brokers do lots of transactions earning a little from each. Some brokers are small and there can be several sharing the transaction. Around 90 % of these carry little risk. Some gurus claim it is difficult to make money in this field and sell excessively expensive courses when it is fairly straightforward and easy. If you are learning about try and avoid buying books and courses with similar information but rather vary the different aspects you need to learn. There are also some good websites with lots of information as with any media for learning about be selective about what you take as gospel truth. There is a lot of dross. Many brokers are websites. I did enjoy this book and do recommend it.

The e-book I read to research this post was How To Install WordPress And Build A Secure WordPress Blog by Jan Kearney which is a very good e-book that I downloaded for free on kindle. This book is around 40 pages so is quite short. It is mainly aimed at people considering hosting WordPress on a 3rd party host like Blue Host or Go Daddy. Another option is letting WordPress host it themselves which is usually free and either way it might be best to purchase a domain name. The process of installing WordPress on a separate hosts server is quite simple but might be a bit tricky to do the first time. This book also outlines the main steps in configuring your website and suggests using Yoast a WordPress plug-in instead of c-panel which is normally included and both contain slightly versions of PHP to each other. To really get indepth in designing a site you need at least some fair knowledge of HTML. I did enjoy this book and do quite recommend it. There are probably better books on the market particularly particularly retail ones but I think this book does a reasonable job. Jan the author has a website at http://www.mylocalbusinessonline.co.uk . It also does mention a free website scanner called Sucuri that might be of interest and scans the website for any problems.

The book I read to research this post was Supercharge Your Kindle Sales by Nick Stephenson which is a very good book that I bought from kindle. This book is about maximizing the sales of your e-book. Most of it is about on kindle. Many books on kindle are in the doldrums sales wise but by tweaking things like sales keywords and getting people to give you their e-mail so you can send them a e-newsletter promoting your books you can be a successful author. There are a couple of tools called kindle spy and kindle samurai that will tell you the popularity of particular keywords on kindle. You can also check out a book that is successful and see what keywords it uses. These keywords are limited in how many you can use so you need to take advantage of this. Keywords used by lots of books will leave you well down the search list. Ideally you want a popularly searched keyword not used by too many books. Kindle uses an algorithm that takes into account the price as well as sales figures so a higher price is classed as more popular after all you are making more money. A lot of people give an e-book away on free promotion either the first in a series permanently or rotate the titles on a temporary basis. Free books are defintely more popular and get your name out their. You can giive away a title on a website or blog where people can give their e-mail in exchange for the free download. You then use this address for an e-newsletter. You can use mailchimp which is free upto 2,000 subscribers and then is reasonably priced. A lot of authors use wordpress and a mailchimp plug in for this. I think this book is around 90 pages so is quite short. It was interesting and I do recommend it.

The book I read to research this post was How To Run A Free Kindle Select Promotion by Michael Andrade which is a very good book that I downloaded for free from kindle. This book is only around 20 pages so quite short. It is about promoting your e-book on kindle. There are quite a few ways of promoting it. Kindle Select lets you put an e-book on their site for free for 5 days out of 90. The other days you can charge people to buy it. This means kindle promote it for 5 days kickstarting your sales and if it gets in one of the free e-books charts a portion of those sales  can be transferred to sales of buying it. This means those sales are listed on the chart but the Amazon algorithm is a secret. You can use Kindle Prime where people can borrow your book and Amazon keep a pot of money that is divided among people who take part in this scheme at the end of each month. Remember the more you promote your book and the more sales you get the more Amazon promotes it in things like search results. Also when someone buys an e-book they list a few similiar books they might be interested in. When you add a book to kindle you can add upto 7 search terms. Many authors also promote there books on Twitter and Facebook. On Twitter you can tweet an advertisement and use a hashtag like #free. On Facebook there are authors groups who work together to promote each other. Request that people give you reviews especially if you are giving the book away but don’t go over the top doing it. You can also give copies away to sites like blogs to review it. There is also a site http://bookbub.com that can promote it for a fee. Apparently they are the holy grail of book promotion sites and 90 % of books submitted are rejected. I did quite enjoy this book and do recommend it.

The book I read to research this post was Scrivener For Dummies by Gwen Hernandez which is a very good book which I read at http://safaribooksonline.com. Scrivener is a writing software initially released for the Apple Macintosh and particularly for the OS X Lion operating system and I think the version in this book is a previous version which at the time had a cut down Windows version although in future both versions will have similar features. I did look on Google to see how much this software is and it is free for 30 days and $40 thereafter. The company that make it is literature and latte. It is particularly suited to writers as they can keep all there work in one place which it does with folders and subfolders. It also allows you to do e-books particularly in pdf and you can import your work including notes and annotations into Microsoft Word. There is a kind of add on at http://crowl.info which is a word counter useful for editing for things like magazines and newspapers. The book does a decent job of explaining how to use it although this software has been superceded by Scrivener 2 which hopefully there will be a follow up book on. The book explains where there are differences between the windows and mac versions although in the later version the features in the windows version are comparable. I really enjoyed reading it and think the price of the software does sound quite reasonable. I’d never heard of this software prior to reading this book and apparently the word scrivener is a fancy word meaning writer. It’s an interesting book.

The book I read to research this post was The New Google Underground by Marc Charles which is an excellent book which I bought from kindle. This book makes the mind boggle with all its ideas on how to make money online. Apparently lots of people are writing books and e-books on internet marketing but things are moving so fast that many of these publications are getting out of date. This book is a wealth of information and much of it is about using mini websites typically less than 10 pages to sell a product per site. Many of these sites can be set up free if you don’t mind compulsory adverts. Another good idea is reviewing books on sites like Amazon as an affiliate and getting commission for selling them. This includes best sellers. There is also pay per click sites like Google Adsense & Ask.com where you bid for search terms and your ad appears when someone does a search for that term. There are also flat rate PPC sites like Exact Seek & Tygo. There are also second tier and cheaper PPC’s which can be as little as a 1/10 cent per search term per click. Try Look Smart, Go Click & Epilot.  Google typically introduces 4 new products or services per month which includes Orkut, Google + &  Blog Search. You can try putting a relevant article in an e-zine which can drive some serious traffic although normally they want a unique article. Try these e-zine directories http://www.ezine-dir.com & ezinelisting.com. There is also last minute remnant advertising a cable and satellite tv one is http://advertisingconnection.com. Some newspaper remnant ads are at http://www.usnewspapers.com. You can get e-zine remnants at http://marksmalley.com. There are absolutely loads of resources like these in the book.  There is also newswire services like http://www.ereleases.com, http://www.businesswire.com & one I use is http://copromote.com. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I think it is one of the best books I’ve read on this topic.
